Vista Murrieta (13-0) Murrieta, CA
Vista Murrieta had its hands full in the second half before defense and
special teams took over to win a comfortable 34-0 game against a good
Rancho Cucamonga team. Now comes the showdown with a Southern California
perennial power in Corona Centennial in the Inland Division Championship
which will be shown on FOX Sports West on Friday.

Katy was shocked by La Porte on Thanksgiving weekend last year, and
while that was a 3rd round matchup, the Tigers made sure it was a happy
holiday by blowing out Langham Creek. Who should be up next but last

DeSoto (12-0) DeSoto, TX
Last week I said we were about to find out how good No. 23 Coppell
actually is. I'm not sure we found out, but we did find out just how
good No. 5 DeSoto is. Wow. If the Eagles can maintain this level of
play, they should be in good shape to win a State Championship. But
there are no letdown games moving forward. Every team is capable of
beating every other team in the Texas quarter-finals.

University (10-0) Ft. Lauderdale
If DeSoto had the most impressive performance of the week, University's
34-17 win over No. 19 American Heritage wasn't far behind. University's
next opponent isn't as good as American Heritage, but the Suns can't
afford a letdown, because Central Catholic is good enough to take
advantage.

Butler (14-0) Matthews, NC
It had been three months since Butler beat Mallard Creek 27-6 in Week 0,
but not much changed as the Bulldogs took care of business with a
convincing 27-0 win. Butler faces off with Jack Britt this week for the
State Championship.

Whitmer (14-0) Toledo, OH
To a certain extent Whitmer was relatively untested going into its game
against No. 10 Mentor. Mentor had dispatched two Top 10 opponents on
consecutive weeks, but Whitmer figured out a way to slow down the high
powered Mentor attack. If Mentor was Ohio's hottest team, Whitmer's next
opponent Moeller might be next. Moeller lost three in the regular season
but is peaking at the right time.

(11/19) Good Counsel made good on its rematch with DeMatha for the WCAC
Championship in a 26-14 win. Good Counsel lost its first game of
the season before running off 11 straight including wins over Gilman,
Dematha (twice), and St. Joseph Regional (N.J.).

Narbonne and Crenshaw beat their six playoff opponents by an average of

Hoover had a 9/28 rematch with Vestavia Hills, and the Bucs were up to
the challenge as they dispatched the Rebels 21-7 to move to the State
Semi-Finals. They take on a strong Clay-Chalkville whose only loss as by
one point to Huntsville more than a month ago.

Norcross' stingy defense handled South Gwinnett 27-7, but now the Blue

Allen had a very tough matchup with the undefeated Mesquite Skeeters,
and the Eagles prevailed 42-28. By comparison Round Rock Westwood should

Centennial reloads every year, and every year they are playing their
best at the end of the season. With a new starting quarterback and a new
running back, the Huskies improved their offensive numbers this year,
and they needed is to give Upland its first loss last week. Up next is
the big test and a rematch in last year's CIF-SS Inland Final, No. 3
Vista Murrieta.

North Gwinnett (11-1) Suwanee, GA
Last week we said that North Gwinnett was capable of beating anyone, and
the Bulldogs proved it by upsetting No. 11 Grayson. The way the game
played out, it may not have been considered much of an upset. North
Gwinnett won handily 28-10. North Gwinnett's only loss of the season
came in September to Norcross. Both teams are still alive in Georgia's
6A Quarterfinal.

Ensworth had Thanksgiving off before facing off with Memphis University

(11/19) Gilman left little doubt this time. Calvert Hall gave the Greyhounds a
scare in a 24-14 Gilman win on 10/22. This time Gilman left little doubt
in a convincing 35-7 victory to claim the MIAA 'A' Title.

Poly (9-3) Long Beach,CA
A candidate for comeback team of the year, Long Beach Poly was left for
dead earlier this season after dropping three straight games including a
56-0 blowout by Narbonne. But the young Jackrabbits got some experience
and have knocked off two Top 50 teams in consecutive weeks hanging the
first loss on Mission Viejo and St. John Bosco. Poly's running game is a
thing to behold and the defense is big and fast.

Archbishop Moeller (11-3) Cincinnati, OH
Welcome back Crusaders. Archbishop Moeller had been ranked in the Top 5
at one point this season, but the Crusaders didn't start playing like it
until the end of the year, when it's most important. Moeller has knocked
off Top 50 teams Louisville Trinity and Colerain this month and gets a
shot at Whitmer on Saturday.

Glenbard West (14-0) Glen Ellyn, IL
In an old-fashioned slugfest, Glenbard West
edged No. 41 Lincoln-Way East 10-8. What the game lacked in firepower it
made up for in drama as the teams West survived a 4th and 10 from the 13
in the closing minutes, and that stop proved to be the difference.

We said that the quarterfinal game between Ocean Lakes and No. 32 Oscar
Smith had the feel of a State Championship, and the game lived up to its
billing. Ocean Lakes knocked off Oscar Smith to claim its spot in the
Top 50.

Bosco ran into the wrong team at the wrong
time for its first on-field loss of the season. Long Beach Poly
rebounded from a disastrous start of the season to knock off two of
California's best teams in back to back weeks in the playoffs. Last
week, Bosco was the victim. Bosco returns nearly its entire roster and
will be a National Title contender next year.

(11/19) Colerain fell victim to Archbishop Moeller who is playing like the Top 5
team that they were at one point during the season before losing three
of five games mid-season. Colerain finished the season with wins over
St. Xavier (twice), Elder, Lakota West, and Sycamore among others to
finish 12-1.

(11/19) Mission Viejo caught a hot Long Beach Poly team at the wrong time. Poly
lost three straight games early in the season by a combined score of

straight, knocking off one of the nation's top teams.

Valor Christian (11-2) Highlands Ranch, CO
Valor Christian began the season in the Top 50, but the Eagles only
lasted one week as they opened their season with a loss to Mullen. No
one is playing better in Colorado right now than Valor Christian. The
Eagles didn't just knock Top 50 ThunderRidge out of the Top 50, they
knocked them out, then kicked snow in their faces in a 49-3 win. The
State Championship this week feels like merely a formality.
