Dontre Wilson and DeSoto face tough test

State Champions are being crowned and teams are getting bounced from the playoffs. Here is a look at the Top 50 High School Football teams in the country.

Rank (Prev)

Team

1 (1)
Manatee logo
Manatee (13-0) Bradenton, FL

Fort Pierce Central brought an undefeated record into its game with Manatee. They left, defeated. Things start to get interesting this week as Manatee takes on South Florida heavyweight St. Thomas Aquinas.

Last: Def Central (Fort Pierce) 51-0
Next
: 12/7 St. Thomas Aquinas (11-2)
2 (2)
John Curtis Christian Logo

Last: Def Springfield 55-0
Next: 12/8 Evangel Christian (12-2)
3 (4)
Katy Logo
Katy (13-0) Katy, TX

Katy had waited all year to exact revenge on La Porte who bounced the Tigers last year, and it showed. Katy left no doubt as they beat La Porte 55-10. Cypress Ranch brings a 10-4 record to the table and could be in deep trouble against a surging Katy team.

Last: Def La Porte 55-10
Next: 12/8 Cypress Ranch (10-4)
4 (5)
DeSoto Logo
DeSoto (13-0) DeSoto, TX

After beating No. 23 Coppell 42-14, DeSoto may have been ripe for a letdown against a good Bowie team. Nope. The Eagles continue to roll through the Texas playoffs with a solid 24-6 win. Southlake Carroll will be DeSoto's toughest challenge to date.

Last: Def Bowie 24-6
Next: 12/8 Southlake Carroll (12-1)
5 (6)
University School Logo Ft. Lauderdale
University (11-0) Ft. Lauderdale

University was another team poised for a let down after beating Top 50 American Heritage two weeks ago and facing a tough opponent this week. Turns out, the Suns only got better. University shellacked a good Clearwater Central Catholic team. University must face an always tough Madison County squad this week.

Last: Def Central Catholic 42-0
Next: 12/8 Madison County (12-1)
6 (7) Bellevue Logo Bellevue (15-0) Bellevue, WA

Bellevue cruised to another State Championship with a 35-3 win over Eastside Catholic.

Last: Def Eastside Catholic 35-3
Next: State Champions
7 (8)
North Allegheny Logo
North Allegheny (14-0) Wexford, PA

McDowell was supposed to be a lighter opponent than the Woodland Hills team that North Allegheny beat two weeks ago, but I don't know if it was expected to be this lopsided. North Allegheny hammered McDowell 56-6 and faces a tough Wilson team this week.

Last: Def McDowell 56-6
Next: 12/8 Wilson (13-1)
8 (9)

Next: 12/8 Folsom (14-0)
11 (13)
Cibolo Steele Football Logo

Last: Def Edinburg North 38-0
Next: 12/8 Brandeis (11-1)
12 (14)
Narbonne Logo
Narbonne (14-0) Harbor City, CA

Narbonne hadn't played a meaningful game in two months, but the rust didn't show as the Gauchos stifled a good Crenshaw team in the City-Section Final. They take on Corona Centennial this week for the chance to face the winner of the De La Salle / Folsom game in California's Open Division Bowl Game.

Last: Def Crenshaw 25-0
Next: 12/8 Centennial (13-1)
13  (22)
Hoover Logo
Hoover (14-0) Hoover, AL

Hoover left little doubt in beating a tough Clay-Chalkville team 44-20. The Bucs get a surprising Opelika team they beat 30-7 on 11/1, that  has already avenged one regular season loss knocking off Auburn two weeks ago. Opelika knocked No. 46 Carver out of the playoffs last week.

Last: Def Clay-Chalkville 44-20
Next
: 12/7 Opelika (10-4)
14 (23)
Norcross (13-0) Norcross, GA

Norcross lost the coin toss but won the battle. The Blue Devils lost a coin toss that forced them to travel 350 miles to Kingsland, Ga. to take on No. 18 Camden County. The Blue Devils' ride home was much easier after a 34-20 win. Norcross shouldn't won't have to travel moving forward. They host Colquitt County this week, and should they advance, the finals are in the Georgia Dome roughly 20 miles from campus.

Last: Def No. 18 Camden County 34-20
Next: 12/7 Colquitt County (10-3)
15 (36)
Archbishop Moeller Logo
Archbishop Moeller (12-3) Cincinnati, OH

Archbishop Moeller completed its own 2012 season comeback. After being ranked in the Top 10 early in the season, the Crusaders dropped three games before coming together as a team to beat powerhouses such as Louisville Trinity, Colerain, and Whitmer.

Next: State Champions
16 (10)
Toledo Whitmer Logo

(11/26) Mentor knocked off two straight Top 10 opponents in the Ohio playoffs, but a third Top 50 game was too much for the Cardinals after its 3OT classic with St. Ignatius two weeks ago. Mentor fell to No. 46 Whitmer 62-34 to end its season.

Last: 11/24 Lost to No. 46 Whitmer 62-34

Next: Season Over
29 (29)
American Heritage Logo
