Nevada High School Stars Make a Difference

Posted Jul 7, 2002

Taking a look at college football this year, many former High School Stars from Nevada will be making an impact this year at the D1 level. Here is a list of the former Nevada High School Football stars who will be in the line up at Division 1 A colleges this season. Also, we have included information on players who will be at the JC level this year as well. Our local boys will make head way this year on making Nevada a top recruiting ground for football talent in the West.

Nevada has not been a real hotbed of College Football talent over the years. Last year's recruting class was non existent with so many players that were not eligible to play D1 college football. Here is a list of players to watch next year at the college level. BIG 12 Oklahoma - After leaving Tennessee, many thought that the problems in Knoxville with being caught distributing pot would lead former Cheyenne Star Lynn McGruder to a path of no where. Well, he got the charges dropped and found a clear path to Norman, Oklahoma. Lynn, the former top 100 high school football player in the nation, will be mixing it up as a Sophomore on the Defensive line for the Sooners this year. He is slated as 2nd string entering the Fall. Don't be suprised if he gets number 1 starting time this year on a line that is among the best in the nation. Mountain West UNLV - Ross Dalton - Cimarron will be given the chance to start in the place of the graduating Sam Brandon at Safety this year. Also, former Durango star Jamal Brimmer will have a chance to see strong time in the secondary for the opening game for UNLV as well. Bonanza star, Adam Seward is being mentioned as a All Conference Line Backer this year after a solid Sophomore campaign. Expect Dyante Perkins of Gorman to either find time at Full back or line backer next year after a redshirt year at UNLV. Jason Rogers, should redshirt this year after coming into camp in January. He is slated to play a slot back at UNLV replacing Troy Mason. Derek Olsen of Indian Springs should see some time in the secondary after starring on special teams last year. SDSU - Western Star Marcus Levi has transferred to Dixie after having grade problems at SDSU. He was set to be a star line man at SDSU. He should be a highly recruited JC star next year. Air Force - Anthony Park of las vegas will see time this year as a number 3 receiver for the Falcons. He has waited behind a deep corp of receivers and will be getting time this year. Alan McIntyre of Durango will sit this year as a Freshman. WAC UNR - Jesse Adarme of Valley is set at Linebacker this year for the pack along side of former McQueen star Matt White at backer. Jeff Rowe should sit on the sidelines this year. The former McQueen star should not crack the top 3 at the position and should redshirt. Boise State - Chris Carr of McQueen saw time in the secondary last year and will be a reserve at CB next year. He is listed as 2nd team at the moment. Tim Gilligan of Elko should start at WR next year. PAC TEN Oregon State - the most aggressive recruiter of athletes from Las Vegas will have plenty of talent on both sides of the football from Sin City. Jon Pollard of Las Vegas and Richard Seigler of Chaparral will start at Line backer. Seigler could be All Pac Ten with a solid year. Steven Jackson at OSU should get the start at RB for the Beavers. He is being thought of as a potential Heisman candidate in years to come with a solid year that saw him as a pure Freshman beat out former a Michigan transfer as the back up to Ken Simonton last year. Cimarron's Kellen Marshall should redshirt this season as a DB for the Beavers learning from ALL PAC Ten DB Dennis Weatherby. Washington - James Sims of Valley could start as a redshirt Freshman for the Dawgs as they are light in the secondary. He is slotted as second string, but will see solid time in the secondary. UCLA - John Ream of Chaparral will start at Center on the line for the Bruins. He came in for an injured starter last season to contribute for the UCLA offense. DIXIE - also has Antoine White of las vegas, keep an eye out to see how he contributes. Cheyenne star Kevin Richardson should also see time for them as well. Still no word on where former Foothill star John Ford has landed after not making grades to go to UNLV. Southern Utah - Still has Charles Henderson of Clark as their starting QB. Luke Doty of Durango should also see time before his mission.
